Like Trees, Like People...

“It’s time to say goodbye, but I think goodbyes are sad and I'd much rather say hello.”

Does it ever get easier? I’m talking about that feeling, the void in your stomach when you know it’s time to go. I’m talking about the space between the “I promise I won’t cry this time” and the fading of the red tail lights.

Saying goodbye to my sister and brother-in-law today was hard (as it always is), even though I know in a just a couple months we will all be reunited, celebrating the holidays together, toasting to the snow fall, smiling with red lipstick and hugging with warm sweaters, talking about today and how fast the time flew by. And with that realization, I started thinking – everything changes, everything is temporary. The scenery, the smells, the weather, the backdrop of our lives, and you don’t really even notice the speed at which it changes or the time that goes by in between. Everything has an inevitable pause – but it also has a fresh new beginning, and an opportunity to catch up on lost time, and it’s what happens in the middle that you should try to hold onto if you can.

You know, there is something to be said about the anticipation of hellos and the dread of goodbyes. So, what can you do? Take photos of everything inspires you, write about your days, relish in every time you laugh so hard your stomach hurts and you cry, touch the Autumn leaves as they fall off the trees while you realize the trees are feeling the same way you are right now, hug someone tightly and hold on to the notion that the hellos wouldn’t be so exciting if it weren’t for the goodbyes….
